Garcinia kola is a multipurpose non-timber forest species. In the Mweka territory, it is exclusively exploited through wild harvesting.
This study aims to assess the various uses of the species by local populations.
An ethnobotanical survey was conducted among 120 households, 15 traditional healers and 3 focus groups. Seven main categories of use dominate : food 82%, medicinal 78%, socio-cultural 65%, aphrodisiac 45%, beverage 12% and conservation 10%.
Dependence on wild resources raises sustainability issues. The study recommends domestication and the structuring of a value chain.
